Throughout my home are little pieces of the people I love most.

Tiny hospital bracelets tucked safely away. My wedding earrings resting beside dried flowers from the day I became a wife. A handwritten note from my grandma. My daughter’s very first pacifier.

If memories carried a scent, I think mine would smell like fresh vanilla the kind that lingers in the kitchen after homemade cookies have cooled on the counter.

The funny thing is, I wasn’t always sentimental.

It took two little girls slowing me down enough to notice just how quickly life moves. Somewhere along the way, I started paying closer attention. To the little things. The things that seem insignificant until years pass and they’re suddenly priceless. Not every birthday card or receipt, but the tiny drawing scribbled on a gum wrapper. The fleeting moments we assume we’ll remember forever.

Maybe that’s why I fell in love with photography.

Because long after the flowers have dried, the bracelets no longer fit, and the seasons have changed, a photograph has a way of bringing you back.
